In this video i will show you 3 ways to notch a 6x6 posts.
Notched out deck in roof.
I repair replace and build decks i do not notch my 4x post but when it is there already i like to use metal bracket on the two sides and if possible go underneath the deck and beef up the framework and add more support were i can the main idea in my opinion on rail system and support depends on how high the deck is.
Check the structural soundness of your elevated deck s support posts.
Take a flashlight and peek beneath the deck to confirm that none of the supports has shifted out of position cracked or sunk into the ground.
Another building method to consider if you don t have a reciprocating saw involves using circular saw to score the top of the post to remove the weakened.
I am working on a roof deck.
If necessary jack up the deck install temporary bracing and then replace any damaged supports.
Picture a deck with a 6x6 column in each corner.
Deeply notched deck post also supporting a roof.
Even then provided the post is well connected to the deck against horizontal forces and the notched portion bears tightly against the framing at the top and bottom there s probably little concern.
Each column will carry the load of the deck.
This is the diy azek deck series.
Active 2 years ago.
I m sure another pair of beams is to be added across the outside once the opposite support beam is notched out.
Most deck builders use a reciprocating saw to cut an l shaped seat in the top of the post large enough to hold the beam.
The columns that support the deck will also be the same columns for the pergola.
The upright notched section of the post acts stabilizes the beam.
I don t know if i should notch the support post to accept the beam.
For the sake of argument the beams to support the deck will be double 2x10 pt lumber.
Each method has its pros and cons depending on what you are lo.
