Noise From Ventilators On Roof

The whirly bird was. There will always be some degree of noise associated with a powered roof ventilator if no other reason for the fact that there is a large amount of air movement forced through a venturi opening and of course the noise that a motor makes while under load. Climb the ladder remove the access panel and enter the attic. Cut through any sealer that may be present.

The vent hood ducts through a rigid or flexible pipe to a cap on the roof or side of your home. Remove the screws holding the vent in place. These are located in the track where the pipe coming out of the roof meets the spinning part of the vent. If the noise drives you crazy new spring loaded backdraft dampers 9 to 30 depending on the size should solve the problem.

The patter or even the roar of falling rain or hail popping and cracking noises perhaps due to thermal expansion and contraction of roof coverings metal roofing or roof structure and transmitted noises from other external sources such as low flying aircraft or nearby trains or auto truck traffic from a nearby highway. There was a noise coming from the roof first sounded like a tap dripping but it turned out to be the whirly bird roof vent as it turned. There are loud banging noises coming from our attic roof. It literally sounds like someone punching sheetrock.

It comes from all around the room. Its not all in one area. Remove the old vent. It was very annoying.

Unscrew the cover and bring it to your workstation. The only way to vent hot room air up through the ceiling into and out of the roof cavity is if you utilised one of those cardiff air type appliances which has louvres to close the vent opening off when not in use but draws air out of the house when activated with a powerful and very large centrally placed fan in conjunction with decent grill vents in the eaves. Often a stiff wind will open vent dampers causing them to periodically clang shut. Most of the noises seem to be coming from the top of the walls.

Our turbine roof vents whirlybirds were really noisy and had some rattling that was causing some vibration in the house. Roof noises may be described as those attributed to an obvious source. Climb onto the roof and locate the vent that is causing the noise. As i sit here in bed trying to get some sleep i cannot.

Be sure to lubricate the bearings. Lift up the edges of the surrounding roof shingles so you can see the edges of the vent. One way to do this is to create a plug out of the grate cover itself.
